2015-2016 A.C.E. Award

Each Club President/Secretary should have received a letter from National regarding the A.C.E. Award. As Chairperson of this program, I would like to encourage each Club to participate in this very worthwhile award.

The A.C.E. Award recognizes high school students who have made a dramatic change in their attitude and performance sometime during their high school years, and are now eligible for high school graduation. These “at risk” students have often overcome great physical, emotional or social obstacles, yet few receive recognition. This is a positive program with two key objectives. First, it helps encourage students to overcome their hardships and get back on track toward a high school diploma. Second, the award recognizes those students who are often overlooked for their accomplishments. This special recognition serves as a powerful example to all students that hard work and perseverance really do pay.

I would like to offer assistance in the selection process. The process is a simple one. Contact the guidance office in your high school, explain the award, and give them a copy of the criteria and an application for the student. The actual selection of the candidate is done by the guidance department. They make sure the student has fulfilled the requirements ie: graduation goals, narrative, and the information regarding their community service. If you plan to enter your candidate into the District competition, the A.C.E. Chair, or the person in your Club you have designated, must write a narrative about the student, which must accompany the application to the District. The application may be downloaded from the National Exchange website.

It can be mailed to Pam McKinnon, 206 Crosswoods Rd., Branford, CT, 06405.

The District application must be in my hands by April 1, 2016.

The district award recipient will be invited to the District Convention in May, and if chosen, as the National Candidate, must attend a luncheon in July in Houston, TX to receive the cash award.

If you have any questions about the process or the award, please call me at 203-640-2629.
